Description

A healthier twist on the classic chicken fried steak, made in the air fryer for a crispy, golden finish without the extra oil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces of cube steak
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
  4. Place the breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  5. Dredge each piece of cube steak in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess.
  6. Dip the steak into the egg mixture, allowing the excess to drip off.
  7. Finally, coat the steak in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  8. Spray both sides of the coated steak with cooking spray.
  9. Place the steaks in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to do this in batches.
  10. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  11. Serve immediately with your favorite gravy or sides.
