Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, granulated sugar, and brown sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Using a spoon or an ice cream scoop, drop batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot.
  6. Fry the fritters for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown.
  7. Remove the fritters from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. While still warm, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
