- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 4 cups water
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (optional)
Instructions
- Soak the navy beans in water overnight. Drain and rinse.
- In a large pot, combine the soaked beans and 4 cups of fresh water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 1 hour or until beans are tender.
- Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the chopped onion, brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, dry mustard, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the cooked beans and crumbled bacon (if using) to the mixture. Stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover with foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until the beans are thick and bubbly.
Notes
- You can use canned beans for a quicker version; just reduce the baking time.
- Feel free to add other seasonings or ingredients like garlic or bell peppers for additional flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
