Description
This Beer-Can Chicken recipe results in juicy, flavorful chicken with a crispy skin, infused with the rich flavors of beer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken (about 4–5 pounds)
- 1 can of beer (your choice)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium heat (about 350°F).
- In a small bowl, mix together the olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper to create a spice rub.
- Pat the chicken dry with paper towels and rub the spice mixture all over the chicken, including under the skin.
- Open the can of beer and drink or pour out half of it. Insert the can into the cavity of the chicken, ensuring it stands upright.
- Place the chicken upright on the grill, either directly on the grates or on a beer can chicken holder.
- Close the lid and cook for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F.
- Carefully remove the chicken from the grill (it will be hot) and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carefully removing the beer can.
- Carve and serve the chicken, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, use a flavored beer or marinate the chicken overnight with the spice rub.
- Ensure the chicken is stable while cooking to avoid tipping over.
- You can also bake this chicken in the oven at 375°F for about the same cooking time.
