Description

The ultimate prime rib roast recipe that results in a tender, juicy, and flavorful roast every time. Perfect for special occasions or holiday dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5-6 pound) prime rib roast, bone-in
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth (for roasting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and thyme.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the prime rib roast, then rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the roast.
  4. Place the roast bone-side down in a roasting pan. Pour the beef broth into the bottom of the pan.
  5. Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (about 130°F for medium-rare, approximately 1.5 to 2 hours).
  6. Once done, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For best results, use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature.
  • Letting the roast rest allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring every slice is juicy.
  • Adjust cooking times based on the size of your roast and desired doneness.
