Description

A refreshing and zesty dish made with fresh fish or seafood marinated in citrus juices, typically lime or lemon, mixed with herbs, spices, and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh fish fillets (such as tilapia, snapper, or halibut), diced
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cucumber, diced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed and finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Avocado slices for serving (optional)
  • Tortilla chips for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a glass or ceramic bowl, combine the diced fish and lime juice. Make sure the fish is completely submerged in the juice.
  2. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours, until the fish is opaque and firm.
  3. Once the fish is ‘cooked’ in the lime juice, drain off some of the excess juice.
  4. Add the chopped red onion, tomatoes, cucumber, jalapeño, and cilantro to the fish. Gently fold to combine.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve immediately with avocado slices and tortilla chips, if desired.
