- 8 oz elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp minced garlic
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Cook macaroni according to package instructions, then drain.
- In a saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Stir in flour to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook until thickened.
- Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir in cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted.
- Combine cheese sauce with cooked macaroni. Transfer to a baking dish.
- Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and minced garlic. Sprinkle over mac and cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes until top is golden and crispy.
- Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use freshly grated cheese for better melting.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of paprika to the breadcrumb topping.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days.
