Description

A delicious and easy-to-make Greek dish featuring tender chicken wrapped in warm pita bread with fresh homemade tzatziki sauce.


Ingredients

  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 pita bread rounds
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • Tzatziki sauce (see below)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix chicken with olive oil, lemon juice, oregano, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 5-6 minutes per side until fully cooked.
  3. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for 20 seconds.
  4. Assemble the gyros by placing chicken, lettuce, tomato, and red onion on the pita. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce.
  5. Fold the pita and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, grill the chicken instead of pan-frying.
  • Make the tzatziki sauce in advance for better flavor.
