Cinco de Mayo Desserts to Impress Your Guests with Churros

These delicious churros are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, served with a rich chocolate dipping sauce. Perfect for impressing your guests this Cinco de Mayo!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 whole large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine water, sugar, salt, and butter. Bring to a boil.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and stir in flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  3. Let the mixture cool slightly, then add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. In a deep pan, heat oil to 375°F (190°C). Pipe churros into the hot oil, cutting them to your desired length.
  6. Fry until golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  7. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon, then roll the fried churros in this mixture.
  8. For the chocolate sauce, heat heavy cream in a saucepan until just simmering. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until smooth.
  9. Serve churros warm with chocolate dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dough.
  • Churros are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes.
