Ingredients

- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
- 1 tablespoon water (for icing)
- Food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Add milk as needed to soften the dough.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
- Place cookies on ungreased baking sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden.
- Let cool before icing.
- Mix powdered sugar and water for icing and add food coloring if desired.
- Decorate cookies with icing.
