- 8 oz (225g) penne pasta
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Simmer for 5-7 minutes until sauce thickens.
- Add cooked pasta to the sauce. Toss to coat evenly.
- Stir in fresh basil.
- Serve hot with grated Parmesan if desired.
Notes
- Adjust red pepper flakes to control spiciness.
- Fresh basil adds the best flavor but dried can be substituted.
- Save 1/2 cup pasta water to thin sauce if needed.
