Description

This classic French toast recipe is easy to make and perfect for breakfast or brunch. Soft, fluffy, and deliciously golden brown!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick bread (Brioche or Challah recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter for frying
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  4. Place the soaked bread onto the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Repeat with remaining bread, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
  6. Serve warm topped with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add orange zest or nutmeg to the egg mixture.
  • Use day-old bread for a better texture; it will soak up the egg mixture without falling apart.
  • Feel free to add toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or chopped nuts.
