Description
This classic French toast recipe is easy to make and perfect for breakfast or brunch. Soft, fluffy, and deliciously golden brown!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices of thick bread (Brioche or Challah recommended)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- Butter for frying
- Maple syrup for serving
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
- Place the soaked bread onto the skillet and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
- Repeat with remaining bread, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
- Serve warm topped with maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add orange zest or nutmeg to the egg mixture.
- Use day-old bread for a better texture; it will soak up the egg mixture without falling apart.
- Feel free to add toppings such as fresh fruit, whipped cream, or chopped nuts.
