  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

These healthy candy apples use natural sweeteners and are made with fresh fruits. Enjoy a guilt-free treat that brings back memories of carnival fun!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Choose firm varieties like Granny Smith or Fuji.)
  • 1 cup (200g) coconut sugar (A healthier alternative to granulated sugar.)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) maple syrup (Adds depth of flavor.)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon natural food coloring (optional) (For vibrant color without artificial additives.)
  • 6 wooden sticks (For dipping apples.)
  • Non-stick cooking spray (To coat the baking sheet.)
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat (For easy cleanup.)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coating it with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden stick into the stem end of each apple.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine coconut sugar, maple syrup, and water. Stir gently until moistened.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage). Use a candy thermometer for accuracy.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in natural food coloring if using. Allow bubbles to settle for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Dip each apple into the syrup, rotating to coat completely. Let excess syrup drip off.
  7. Place coated apples stick-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Allow to cool completely at room temperature for about 20 minutes.

Notes

  • These candy apples are healthier and lower in sugar compared to traditional recipes.
  • Store at room temperature and consume within 1-2 days for best taste.
  • Experiment with different fruits or natural flavorings to customize your candy apples.
