- 1 large onion, thinly sliced

Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the vegetable oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper to create a marinade.
- Layer the herring fillets in a glass or ceramic dish.
- Add the thinly sliced onions on top of the herring.
- Pour the marinade over the herring and onions, ensuring they are well covered.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 24 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, garnish with fresh dill if desired.
Notes
- For best results, use high-quality herring fillets.
- This dish can be kept in the refrigerator for up to a week.
