Description
A delicious chocolate and walnut pie that’s a classic dessert for the Kentucky Derby.
Ingredients

- 1 unbaked pie crust
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup bourbon (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar and melted butter, stirring until well blended.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
- If using bourbon, stir it in now.
- Pour the filling into the unbaked pie crust.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- For an extra touch, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- This pie can be made ahead of time and served cold or at room temperature.
