  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A delicious open-faced sandwich originating from Kentucky, featuring turkey, bacon, and a creamy Mornay sauce, all baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices of white bread, toasted
  • 1 pound sliced turkey breast
  • 4 slices of cooked bacon
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 1/4 cup of butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden.
  3. Slowly add the heavy cream, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens.
  4. Stir in the cheddar cheese, cayenne pepper, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper until smooth and creamy.
  5. Arrange the toasted bread slices on a baking sheet. Layer the turkey slices on top of each piece of bread.
  6. Pour the cheese sauce generously over the turkey, ensuring each piece is well covered.
  7. Top each sandwich with two slices of bacon.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use a combination of cheeses such as Gruyere and Parmesan.
  • Feel free to add sliced tomatoes on top of the turkey for extra flavor.
