Ingredients

  • 8 oz spaghetti or linguine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the lemon zest and juice to the skillet, stirring to combine.
  4. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat with the lemon mixture. If the pasta seems dry, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until the desired consistency is reached.
  5. Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and chopped basil. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  6. Serve immediately, garnished with additional Parmesan and basil if desired.
