Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups Fresh mint leaves
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1 cup Water
- 4 cups Bourbon
- as needed Crushed ice
- as needed Mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved to create a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Once cooled, add the fresh mint leaves to the syrup and muddle gently to release the mint’s oils. Let the mixture steep for at least 30 minutes.
- Strain the mint syrup into a large pitcher, discarding the mint leaves.
- Add the bourbon to the pitcher and stir to combine.
- To serve, fill glasses with crushed ice and pour the mint julep mixture over the ice.
- Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and serve immediately.
Notes
- Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the syrup based on your preference.
- For an extra minty flavor, reserve some mint leaves for garnish.
- This recipe can be doubled or tripled easily for larger gatherings.
