  • Author: ushinzomr
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 4 cups Bourbon
  • as needed Crushed ice
  • as needed Mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved to create a simple syrup. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Once cooled, add the fresh mint leaves to the syrup and muddle gently to release the mint’s oils. Let the mixture steep for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Strain the mint syrup into a large pitcher, discarding the mint leaves.
  4. Add the bourbon to the pitcher and stir to combine.
  5. To serve, fill glasses with crushed ice and pour the mint julep mixture over the ice.
  6. Garnish with fresh mint sprigs and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less sugar to the syrup based on your preference.
  • For an extra minty flavor, reserve some mint leaves for garnish.
  • This recipe can be doubled or tripled easily for larger gatherings.
