Description
This delicious plum cinnamon jam combines the sweet flavor of ripe plums with the warm spice of cinnamon, creating a delightful spread perfect for toast or pastries.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds ripe plums, pitted and chopped
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 package fruit pectin (optional, for thicker jam)
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the chopped plums, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir to combine and let sit for about 30 minutes to macerate.
- Add the ground cinnamon and nutmeg to the pot and mix well.
- Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to a simmer and let cook for about 20-30 minutes, or until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency.
- If using fruit pectin, follow the instructions on the package for adding it at the appropriate time.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean cloth.
- Seal the jars with lids and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes to ensure proper sealing.
- Let the jam cool completely before storing in the refrigerator or pantry.
Notes
- Ensure that the plums are ripe for the best flavor.
- Adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of the plums.
- This jam can also be made without pectin, but it may take longer to reach the desired thickness.
