Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup poppy seeds
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  3. Add melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture, then mix well.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  7. In a small saucepan, combine poppy seeds, honey, and vanilla. Heat over low until warm and well-combined.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Roll the dough out into a rectangle, spread the poppy seed mixture evenly over the top.
  10. Roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the ends to seal.
  11. Place the roll seam-side down on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  12. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Let cool before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.
