- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 cup milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup poppy seeds
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add melted butter and eggs to the yeast mixture, then mix well.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a small saucepan, combine poppy seeds, honey, and vanilla. Heat over low until warm and well-combined.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll the dough out into a rectangle, spread the poppy seed mixture evenly over the top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the ends to seal.
- Place the roll seam-side down on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool before dusting with powdered sugar and slicing.
