Silesian Dumplings with Gravy: 5 Reasons to Love Them

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Silesian dumplings, also known as ‘kluski śląskie’, are soft and fluffy potato dumplings that are traditionally served with a rich gravy. This comforting dish is a staple in Silesian cuisine, perfect for any family meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds potatoes
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups gravy

Instructions

  1. Boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and let cool slightly.
  2. Mash the potatoes until smooth, then allow to cool completely.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooled mashed potatoes, cornstarch, salt, beaten egg, and melted butter. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into equal portions and shape each portion into a small ball. Make a small indentation in the center of each ball with your thumb.
  5. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully drop the dumplings into the boiling water. When they float to the surface, cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  6. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and let drain.
  7. Serve the dumplings hot with your choice of gravy poured over them.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can mix in finely chopped herbs or sautéed onions into the dough.
  • These dumplings can be made ahead of time and frozen, just reheat in boiling water when ready to serve.
