Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • water as needed for icing consistency
  • green food coloring

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture and mix well.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place them on baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden.
  9. Let cookies cool completely.
  10. For the royal icing, mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water until smooth.
  11. Add food coloring to achieve desired color.
  12. Decorate cooled cookies with royal icing.
