Description
This standing rib roast recipe yields a beautifully cooked, tender, and flavorful roast that is perfect for special occasions or holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 standing rib roast (about 5–7 pounds)
- 2 tablespoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cups beef broth
Instructions
- Remove the standing rib roast from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, rosemary, and thyme.
- Rub the olive oil all over the roast, then apply the seasoning mixture evenly to the entire surface of the meat.
- Place the roast bone-side down in a roasting pan.
- Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to develop a crust.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (about 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium). This usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
- While the roast is resting, add the beef broth to the roasting pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Simmer over medium heat for 5-10 minutes to create a flavorful au jus.
- Slice the roast and serve with the au jus on the side.
Notes
- For added flavor, you can marinate the roast overnight with the seasoning mixture.
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure accurate cooking temperatures.
- Leftover roast can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
