Description
These sweet lazy pierogi are filled with creamy cheese and topped with a delicious mixture of butter and sugar. Perfect for a comforting dessert or a delightful breakfast treat!
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups farmer’s cheese or quark
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Additional sugar for serving
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the farmer’s cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, egg, and sour cream to form a soft dough. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into squares or circles, about 3 inches in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the cheese mixture in the center of each dough piece. Fold over and pinch the edges to seal.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop the pierogi into the boiling water in batches, cooking them for about 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
- Remove the pierogi with a slotted spoon and set aside.
- In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the cooked pierogi and sauté until golden brown on both sides.
- Serve warm, sprinkled with additional sugar.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a touch of lemon zest to the cheese filling.
- These pierogi can also be topped with fruit, jam, or a dollop of whipped cream.
