Tres Leches Cake: 3 Layers of Sweet Delight Await You

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

A classic Latin American dessert made with three types of milk, resulting in a moist, rich, and sweet cake that’s perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • for garnish cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare the tres leches mixture by combining the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk in a bowl.
  7. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake using a fork.
  8. Slowly pour the tres leches mixture over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in. Let it cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  9. Before serving, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the top of the cake and sprinkle with cinnamon if desired.

Notes

  • For added flavor, you can add a splash of rum or vanilla extract to the tres leches mixture.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance for a better flavor as it allows the milk to fully soak into the cake.
