Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 cup cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Fresh strawberries (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in milk and vanilla extract.
  6. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  8. If using, add red food coloring to achieve desired color.
  9. Pour batter evenly into prepared cake pans.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  11. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  12. For frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth.
  13. Once cakes are cooled, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  14. Decorate with fresh strawberries as desired.
