Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp heavy cream
  • Red food coloring
  • Heart-shaped sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  5. Divide batter between the pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Check with a toothpick.
  7. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  8. In a bowl, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and heavy cream to make frosting.
  9. Add red food coloring to achieve desired color.
  10. Once cakes are cool, frost the top of one cake, place the second on top, and frost the top and sides.
  11. Decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles.
