Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • For frosting: 1 cup butter, softened
  • For frosting: 4 cups powdered sugar
  • For frosting: 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • For frosting: 2-3 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour.
  7. Divide batter between pans. Bake 25-30 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool cakes in pans 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks.
  9. For frosting: Beat butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar.
  10. Mix in vanilla and heavy cream until fluffy.
  11. Frost cooled cake layers.
