Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar for topping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the center is still soft.
- Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Once cooled, drizzle the heavy cream over the cookies and sprinkle the additional granulated sugar evenly on top.
- Using a kitchen torch, carefully caramelize the sugar until it forms a golden, crispy layer. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For an extra touch, add a pinch of sea salt on top of the caramelized sugar for a sweet and salty contrast.
- Make sure to use a kitchen torch for the best results when caramelizing the sugar.
- Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
