Description

A classic Black Forest Cake with layers of chocolate sponge, cherries, and whipped cream swirls.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups pitted cherries
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in boiling water. Batter will be thin.
  5. Pour into pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely.
  6. Whip cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  7. Layer cake with cherries and whipped cream. Decorate with swirls.

Notes

  • Use fresh cherries for best flavor.
  • Chill the bowl and beaters before whipping cream.
